Community Care And Support
Once upon a time, a thoughtful group of people realized there was a very special group of women who needed a little extra help in order to make a fresh start.
‘The Basketeers’, founded in 2000, was created to provide support to women fleeing from domestic abuse. Many of these women leave with absolutely nothing, and starting from scratch is daunting and terrifying.
Every year ‘The Basketeers’ group has grown. Amazingly, more than 10,000 women have received a new beginning basket to help with their transition.
This year is the inaugural year for the Collingwood Chapter, and we want to demonstrate just how generous and supportive a community we are! The two shelters that will benefit from your thoughtfulness are ‘The Women's Centre Grey & Bruce Inc.’, and ‘My Friend's House’.
As we head into the November and have the holidays in mind, consider registering your own basket. Get a group and have some fun with it. Pick a theme, have a shopping day and celebrate with a decorating party with some snacks and wine.
The best gift is the one you give to someone in need. In turn, you will be rewarded with a feeling of fulfilment and happiness in making someone's life just a little bit easier.
Steps to participating this year:
Registering your basket is necessary for two reasons, one in order to keep track of the baskets coming in to coordinate with the shelters and two for the thank you notes that will go out after delivery.
Pick a room or theme and go shopping! An early start will have you in a great position to take advantage of some really awesome sales. The average price of each basket is $150 - $200.
No real rules here, but typically baskets are wrapped in cellophane and decorated with a pretty bow! Remember to include a list of all the items in the basket on the outside and include a motivational message, poem or well wishes.
The Collingwood Chapter drop off date is Saturday, November 17th. Deliver your basket, have a coffee and check out some of the other baskets that have been dropped off.
